WOW Safari- Why? What?

Hakuna Matata!I'm going Kenya, Africa with 20 other women this March-2011. The purpose of our trip is of a humanitarian nature. We are going to various schools, villages and orphanages to share our talents, gifts and expertise with the people. It has been a dream of mine since I was a young girl to visit Africa and go to orphanages and help however I can. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity. We are going with a group that is called "Victoria's passion" via a nonprofit organization called "Wowsafari" http://www.wowsafaris.org/

Along with donating our time and individual skills and talents, Ten percent of every trip with WOW Safaris goes to providing scholarships for future women leaders in Africa. Please follow along our journey and feel free to send out messages and prayers for us to be safe and to be able to help make a difference for the betterment of all of the individuals whose paths we will be crossing. A BIG THANK YOU to each and every person, organization and school that donated items that we need for our projects and the monetary donations. I can assure you that your gifts and support will be appreciated by many less fortunate. Are goal is to give a "hand up" versus a "hand out".

Check back often-I will be posting pictures and brief articles as often as I can so they you can enjoy our adventure too.

Packing Day-No small task

Last Saturday, we got together at our karate dojo to group pack everyone's "treasures" in order to maximize what we could bring with us. We are allowed 2 bags- one personal and one with our project items.

At first, it almost seemed like an overwhelming task....as you will see by the pictures. We had a lot of stuff - We prioritized what we needed most and went from there with each suitcase. We weighed- packed- loaded more in -unloaded when necessary until each suitcase was maxed at the 50 pound weight restriction. First Mission accomplished!!! Whew!!!

Africa March 2011

We can do no great things; only small things with great love. ... Mother Teresa

It's Feb. 17th....16 sleeps until my next greatest adventure. I'm going to Africa! I'm going to Africa...I'm surprised when I say that because it's been a dream of mine my whole life. I can hardly believe it's actually coming true. Up until recently, I can say that I have felt "brave" about it all. But between seeing a video that Tessa's been playing by Sarah M...and reading Heather's blog...and seeing the many pictures of what I am about to experience I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and even nervous. I think the term "crocodile tears" might have to be changed to "elephant tears"...hmmm...do elephants cry?...we are going to a baby elephant orphanage maybe I'll find that out.

Heather's blog....we are joining up with her. She went ahead of us to organize many of our projects. http://heathermdouglas.blogspot.com/
